It’s Zine Month again, and as usual some Hex Games creators have projects launching soon on Kickstarter. Here’s what we’ve got this year:
Beowulf Vs. Grendel for Million-Colored Sun (Leighton Connor)
The greatest epic in English literature comes to life! For 12 years Grendel, that unhallowed wight, wrathful and reckless, has rained ceaseless slaughter onto King Hrothgar’s land. Now Beowulf, the greatest monster-hunter of all time, leads his team of hearty warriors across the sea to defend Hrothgar’s hall from Grendel. But even if Beowulf and his comrades can defeat Grendel, they will find an even worse horror lying in wait! Beowulf Vs. Grendel is the revised and updated second edition of the classic bone-crushing sword & sorcery adventure, now designed for use with the Million-Colored Sun RPG system.
Disposable Future (Josh Burnett)
Disposable Future is a dystopian cyberpunk RPG using mechanics from Into the Odd. In this role-playing adventure game, you and the other PCs start as roommates sharing one crummy apartment in the slums of New-Cleveland. You have $20 in your pocket, rent is due in four days, and you owe ten-of-thousands of dollars to someone powerful and unforgiving. You’ll take any sketchy job that comes your way, even if it means taking the bus to a hit.
It’s a grungy, unforgiving world full of cutting edge tech that barely works, and you’re a bunch of desperate jerks with guns. If you can survive, maybe you can work towards building something better.
My Name Is Hood (Steve Johnson)
Nottingham County ain’t what it used to be. It was never what you’d call a “nice” place, but you used to be able to at least scrape by. Now every time you turn around the vultures down at the courthouse come up with a new scheme. The sheriff and his cronies have rigged the system, bleeding regular folks dry so they can line their own pockets.
The bad guys have the law on their side. All the good guys have is a scrappy band of misfits with a knack for trouble, shaky morals, and maybe a felony or two. You and your buddies ain’t exactly Robin Hood and his Merry Men, but sometimes when the system is dirty it takes a few honest outlaws to set things straight.
My Name Is Hood reimagines the tales of Robin Hood as a modern-day sitcom in the spirit of the work of Greg Garcia (My Name Is Earl, Raising Hope, Sprung). Dive into a world full of eccentric townsfolk, outlandish schemes, and small-town grit as you and your crew fight the power, one hare-brained scheme at a time. You’re not trying to be heroes, you’re just trying to make your town a better place.
