REVERB GAMERS 2012, #17: What was the best reward you’ve ever gotten in a game? What made it so great? How much do you need tangible rewards (loot, leveling, etc.) to enjoy a game? (Courtesy of Atlas Games. Visit them at www.atlas-games.com)

I don’t really have an answer for the first and second questions, which I guess answers the third one with a big “not even remotely.” I guess you could count story outcomes as a “reward,” but even that’s a little foreign to me, since I consider the story and character development stuff to be the main reason for playing, not some kind of carrot to encourage me to play. And since most story/character “rewards” are really only meaningful in the context of the character and plot, anything like that I could think of would take way to much explanation to make sense. If the big payoff for a game is a magic sword or pile of gold, it’s probably not the kind of game I want to play.
