In order to avoid double-secret academic probation, every fraternity has to maintain a minimum grade point average. In order to keep the frat’s GPA up to that minimum without cutting into time that could be spent getting wasted, some frats make sure there are at least a few nerds in every pledge class. In addition to maintaining high GPAs to offset all the below-average fratboys, nerds can often be convinced or threatened into doing homework and papers for, or at least tutoring, their less intellectually gifted brothers.
\nMajor: <\/strong>Most nerds gravitate towards math and scientific majors: computer science, physics, chemistry, and the like.
